Ninety Things to Watch in 2009
JWT’s Annual List Includes Pisco Sours, Inconspicuous Travel and the Collective Consciousness
NEW YORK, Dec. 26 /PRNewswire/ — JWT, one of the largest advertising agencies in the world, today released its list of 90 things to watch in 2009.
“Our list points to the broader trends we’re seeing, showing the ways in which these shifts will manifest in our everyday lives,” says Ann Mack, director of trendspotting at JWT.
Among these shifts, the recession will make the biggest impact, says Mack. “A lot of what to watch in 2009 relates to consumers’ adaptation to the economic situation, from ‘affordable nutrition’ to ‘more under one roof,’” notes Mack.

In a Tough Economy, Focus on the 98% That Is Working - Positve Thinking For Business Growth
You may have heard it said by authors and speakers who have crossed your path…What you focus on expands. This is not a cliché’. It actually works. When I am in a bad mood I am focused on what is bothering me. People around me may react with caution, fear, concern or defensiveness. When I am in a good mood I am focused outward and on possibilities. People smile, are helpful and want to engage with me. Notice your moods and how others react. You will see the truth. Practice A Positive Focus.
During the 2nd year of my business as a business and life coach, I was struggling. I just could not seem to bring in enough clients to help pay the bills (much less the costs of building my business). In fact I actually referred to it not as a business but as a practice. My practice was not ‘growing’ well. And the longer this state persisted the more desperate I became. And the more desperate I became the more I literally repelled potential clients. Who wants to be coached by an ‘out of balance’ coach? And that is the state of being we project when feeling desperate.
Once I found a solution to managing my finances, I worked on a solution for my state of being. Here is what I did and offer to you. Use that which is easy to use. Try-on some that may not be so easy. Then try again. You may be surprised at the results you get. Remember, what you focus on expands.
Step 1: Surround yourself with positive minded people. These are the people that see a problem or concern, recognize it and then focus on solutions and what it is they can influence or control.
How is it helpful to lament about the bad economy, the price of fuel, the behaviors or personality of others and so on? How does focus on negative topics with which we have no control help us to succeed and excel in life and work? It doesn’t help and in fact this focus hurts.
Look for individuals who are talking about the 98% or more this IS working in their life and in the world. Look for individuals who generate solutions and forward thinking. Saturate your life with these people. Notice how you feel when with them and afterward.

Thinking About Hiring Your Own Internal IT Staff? - Think Again!
Businesses today wrestle and grapple with the thought of hiring their own technology support staff to support their daily need for IT support without fully understanding the risks and the costs associated with having their own team of technology professionals.
Business owners, C level execs and Managers are attracted to the idea of having a team or a consultant readily available within shouting distance down the hall, basically having an IT resource committed to them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, many of today’s business owners across the country are not aware of the total risks their business is exposed to by electing to bring their technology support in-house.
More often than not it is purely a cost based decision, on the surface it may appear to be more cost effective to hire a consultant or employee who is committed as a full time employee. CFOs and Accounting Managers often look only at the cost of having their IT outsourced and or attracted to hiring someone for a few thousand dollars a month as part of their staff will save their company in the long run. This is not the case in reality and by having a full time employee will actually end up costing business today more in the long run.
So what are the advantages of having an IT Partner who focuses on delivering a complete managed technology solution? There are a number of immediate benefits over having a full time employee. These benefits include:
The average technology professional with five years experience may be worth $60,000 a year. This is great when you looking at the bills from your IT provider and see that you have probably spent paid the same in their consulting bills for only a fraction of the time. When a business elects to go internal, a $60,000 salary now buys the business one person and not a team of professionals offering depth in expertise and knowledge.
IT Partners will provide around the clock monitoring and coverage throughout the entire term of the contract. When a company hires their own IT staff, now the challenges around vacation scheduling, training and time off from illness impacts the company. An outsourced IT Partner provided full time coverage, vacations, illness and other absences now are not an impact on your technology support.
